2021 word: Prosper

Prosper is my word for 2021!

It’s a word that has continued to pop into my head this past year! Quite literally, I feel God has been whispering it to me at times.

I ignored His whispers for a lonnnng time. But when I finally took the time to reflect on the various definitions of prosper, I immediately understood why He was placing this word on my heart.

Prosper is usually associated with finances. To be prosperous I think of a king donned in purple velvet looking down on his people. While prosper can refer to money, it has meaning beyond that!

Some of my favorite definitions I found are:

Prosper:

- to flourish physically; grow strong and healthy.

-To make steady progress

-to thrive, succeed, etc, or cause to thrive, succeed, etc in a healthy way

When you reflect on these definitions you can see that, to be prosperous, is to be in “an ongoing state of success that touches every area of our lives.” You are well with your family & work, your head & your heart, & beyond.

The second definition reminds us that “to prosper,” you don’t have overnight success. Instead, you “make steady progress,” towards prosperity! What a relief right?! You don’t have a tight timeline! To prosper takes time!

Furthermore, to prosper doesn’t mean you cut corners that hurt others or yourself to succeed. Instead, to truly prosper, you must take a path that is healthy & will allow you to stay true to yourself!

In the Bible, God makes it clear that he wants us to prosper physically & spiritually. He wants us to have a mind & heart clear of fear. He knows that in order for us to succeed physically, we must be well in our hearts and souls.

Lastly, I love that in the Bible, one of the most popular verses including the word “prosper,” is the following…

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. Plans to PROSPER you & not to harm you, plans to give you hope & a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Wow! If that’s not what we all need to hear leaving 2020 & going into 2021!! So while 2020, may have not been the best, remember God wants us to prosper and He has plans to give us hope & a future for this next year!

And to that I say, “Amen!”
